As recruiters we hear people complain all day long about their companies and the people in their companies, which is usually why they are seeking new employment. We also hear companies complain daily about their staff and management, which is why we get recruitment assignments to replace them. Aggression in the workplace has always been a key factor in contributing to the disruption and downfall of teamwork and team spirit and can be seen as one of the main factors in company headcount turnover.

The term “unemployed executive” is not an oxymoron - too often the two words do go together. In today’s business climate, rife with corporate buyouts, staff restructuring, slashed budgets, and rapidly changing initiatives, highly placed executives often get caught in the corporate grist mill and find themselves out of a job. Unemployed executives face unique challenges because they are highly skilled specialists with high price tags. The perfect job doesn’t come along very often, so their job searches can be long, emotionally trying, and financially difficult. But those who are resilient, with a solid core of self-confidence, and who follow a few simple rules, emerge from their job search stronger, and better employed.

Ask Questions

Many people are stressed at times due to a lack of information which causes fear and uncertainty. People need necessary communication at times, from their family, spouse, kids, employer, boss, colleagues, car repairman, internet service provider, etc. Instead of waiting for someone to read your mind to understand you need communication from them, just ask for it.

Ask the specific questions. Do not be vague about it or play the guessing game with people. Be direct; and it also helps to explain why you are asking –why do you want to know –it will put the person at ease to feel more comfortable about answering your question, as your motives will be clear.

Handling Today’s Stress

Most of us always have stress in our lives, but a market crisis like we are experiencing, just seems to escalate it a bit.  Will we lose our job, will we not find a job, will our future plans now be unattainable, will we now not reach our early retirement goal; will we lose it all?  It’s thinking about these things that cause us stress.  They are depressing thoughts that are destructive to our productivity, health and well being.  Finding ways to handle our stress is key to staying positive and moving forward.
