A huge component of this is body language – a person’s posture and gestures. So when you meet someone for the first time, particularly someone whose good opinion is important for your career, it is vital you understand what your body language says about you.

If Quentin Tarantino decided to make a movie about Russia, he would most likely choose to set it in the 1990s because I bet he would enjoy the atmosphere of chaos as the first private enterprises and huge corporations in Russia were born.

Back then, one could only dream of stability and making long-term plans. Former engineers were setting up joint ventures, scientific research assistants were becoming general managers, and many people were forced to build completely different careers and start over from scratch. Many didn’t have the faintest idea what they were going to do in a month, let alone in several years.

The term “unemployed executive” is not an oxymoron - too often the two words do go together. In today’s business climate, rife with corporate buyouts, staff restructuring, slashed budgets, and rapidly changing initiatives, highly placed executives often get caught in the corporate grist mill and find themselves out of a job. Unemployed executives face unique challenges because they are highly skilled specialists with high price tags. The perfect job doesn’t come along very often, so their job searches can be long, emotionally trying, and financially difficult. But those who are resilient, with a solid core of self-confidence, and who follow a few simple rules, emerge from their job search stronger, and better employed.
