182457_chasing_the_marketsI think we all expected, going into 2009, that things would be real tough in the first quarter, and they are.  However, there is a decent level of business still going strong out there, and in sectors that may surprise you.

Companies that have been hiring this first quarter, using Staffwell’s recruitment services, are a fair mix of current clients needing to fill replacement positions, current clients expanding their businesses in new directions, new clients with the same needs as our current clients, and new clients now coming into the market with new investment and growth plans.

20% of our new placements from January 1 thru March 10, have been from the real estate and constructions sectors, 15% from B2B (business to business services), 14% from banking, 12% from industrial, 8% from private equity, 7% from legal, and the remaining 17% from a mix of hotel/restaurants/catering, energy, insurance, FMCG and other sectors.

Staffwell’s breakdown of placed candidates  by occupation areas from January 1 thru March 10 are 22% in banking positions, 17% in finance positions, 13% in project management, 10% lawyers, 8% administrative staff and management, 6% senior sales, 6% engineers, 5% IT/technical, and the remaining 13% were in insurance, marketing, HR and general management areas.

Current active vacancies, as of March 10 at Staffwell, are in the following industry sectors:  22% from legal, 22% from FMCG, retail & B2B, 20% from banking, investment & insurance, 13% from finance, 11% from real estate and construction, 7% from Pharmaceutical and medical, and 5% from IT & Telecoms, industrial and energy sectors.

Some of the vacancies we are currently actively searching for our clients for are (and in no order):  head of underwriting, corporate lawyer, head of back office, lawyer, finance manager, legal advisor, professional development director, editor, consulting manager, engineers, project managers, senior Java developers, VB developer, marketing project manager, key account managers, head of leasing department, finance and operations controller, chief marketing specialist, B2B sales directors and managers, a whole host of lawyers and partners at all levels  in the following areas:  customs/exchange, tax, IP, litigation, banking/finance, and employment and many more positions (view details on www.staffwell.com).

The bottom line here is that yes, the market is down here like everywhere else, but things are still happening and there is movement in the market  -and there are some really decent jobs out there at some great companies that are hiring.
