Last quarter, when the crisis was really at its peak and most on the market were experiencing a mixture of fear, boredom, depression and anxiety, a bunch of us at Staffwell came together in a teambuilding effort to lose some weight and bring some excitement into our lives.
Five of us signed up from different departments and at first we weighed-in in front of all staff members, to make it fun for everyone. We had a great laugh at the first weigh-in as the ‘very cheap and inaccurate’ scale we were using showed a 10 kilo range for each of our weight whenever we stepped on it. The five of us then set off on our own diets and agreed to meet every week at the same time, to weigh in and check results.
After a month of most of us having fun weighing-in but not losing on the cheap and inaccurate scale or the diets (or lack of) that we were on, we took it up a notch. We brought in a proper scale, added a new member which brought us to six, and decided on our group having a weigh-in and group discussion over lunch together, every Monday from 12 to 1pm. We also charted our weekly results.
The weekly lunches together have been great for all of us. Our discussions got us more focused on succeeding, by hearing from each other strategies that work and areas we should avoid. Overall we are down (weigh less) as a group.
The other great result of our group has been the teambuilding and camaraderie. We put our titles away and focus as an equal group with similar goals in supporting each other to lose. Every week we get to know each other better and every week we have a biggest loser to celebrate. We also have no time limit as once we reach our individual goals we then will focus our efforts on maintaining our success.
For Staffwell, this has been a great time to get healthy, have a laugh, and get to know each other better. We highly recommend it as a great teambuilding idea for all!

Изобретенная мной теория значительно отличается от описанной автором, вдруг кому-то интересно, могу поделиться своим опытом. Мой email:kisska-007@bk.ru, Виталий.
Setting aside the weight issues which might be confidential and very personal, I was thinking about other cons of these Monday lunches and the fact that we, as a group, have much more power over our individual goals compared to what we could have been able to achieve on our own (even though my personal gone kilos do no good or bad for another group member).
Pondering over this I looked up various definitions of collective on the web and here is a generic one - A collective is a group of people who share or are motivated by at least one common issue or interest, or work together on a specific project(s) ..So, our project is loosing weight, we chart the results, set goals and milestones, have group discussions and adjust the strategy along the way. This might be a funny analogy…if (I would really like to say “when”, though) we complete the project successfully, the findings might become a base for yet another book on successful project management.
As a serial failed dieter, I have found this group extremely helpful in terms of being able to listen to the experience of others who want to lose weight, to be able to receive the support of my colleagues and to be able to focus on the achievement of a goal. This motivation is helping and the results are beginning to happen.
Many of us are losing now … in a different senses, but to unite for a specific healthy common goal is a really positive idea and a challenge against poisonous market news. Let’s meet new circle and be after the crisis in a good shape.
